I never thought a moment of panic in our small kitchen would lead us to start a business that would touch so many lives—both human and furry.
It all began with Teddy.
Teddy wasn’t just our dog. She was family. Our daughter named her after her favorite teddy bear, and from the moment she waddled into our lives, she brought nothing but joy. But one night, things took a turn. Teddy was pregnant—our first time dealing with this—and something felt wrong. She was restless, whining, and breathing heavily. We rushed to the nearest 24-hour vet in San Diego.
The price of the emergency care nearly knocked the wind out of us. Just the initial consultation was more than our monthly rent. We weren’t prepared—financially or emotionally—for what followed. We called around, desperately trying to find help, but every vet quoted us something higher than the last.
That's when someone suggested we look across the border, in Tijuana. I was hesitant at first—how would we get her there? Was it safe? Was it legit? But when you're staring into your dog's scared eyes, you'll do anything.
We found a highly recommended vet in Mexico. Professional, compassionate, and most importantly, affordable. Teddy got the care she needed, including an emergency C-section that saved her life—and her puppies'. I still remember the moment our daughter held one of the newborn pups in her arms and said, “Teddy’s brave. Like a superhero.”
That experience changed us.
In the weeks that followed, I couldn't stop thinking about how many other families might be in the same spot—stuck between wanting to do the right thing for their pet and being priced out of basic care. So we did something a little crazy.
We started started transporting pets for family and friends.
At first, it was just us. Me driving the van, my husband handling the logistics, and our daughter in the back with Teddy, acting like quality control. We focused on helping pet owners in San Diego and nearby cities get their animals to trusted, affordable vets in Mexico. We offered round-trip transportation, bilingual support, and even handled appointment coordination.
Word spread fast.
What began as one desperate trip for Teddy became something much bigger. We met people from all walks of life—college students, single parents, retirees—who just wanted their pets to get the care they deserved without going into debt. We gave them options. We gave them peace of mind.
Now, every time I see a wagging tail hop into our transport van, I think of that night—how scared we were, how helpless we felt—and I smile, knowing that because of Teddy, another pet has a fighting chance.
And yeah… sometimes I still call her my little superhero.
